Volunteering at the Keller Farmers Market is a fun way to give back to your community by supporting local agriculture and artisans, and helping the market provide opportunities for the community to educate themselves in healthy eating and good nutrition, as well as learn about the origin of their food. Volunteers are essential to ensuring successful market operations, events, and solid customer service. We depend on the generosity of the volunteer board of directors, committee members and daily volunteers to help us provide the best farmers market experience possible.
If you’re a “people person,” consider volunteering at the market’s Information Booth; this is the “hub” of the market. In addition to answering general questions about KFM, you can offer visitors grocery bags and other logo items for donation, sign-ups for the e-newsletter, help them to their car with heavier loads, pass out recipes for what’s in season, provide cold drinking water for people – and Fido! – and a place to wash their hands, just in case they enjoyed a juicy at-market peach for breakfast! Educational material about canning, growing seasons and KFM Gift Dollars and Gift Dollars are also at the Information Booth.
If you’re the “strong, silent type,” we ALWAYS need assistance with set up and knock down of the market, which is from 6:30 – 8:00 a.m., and 12:00 noon – 1:00 p.m.
If you’re the “focused, silent type,” we need someone at the entrance/Information Booth every week to count our visitors and log the count hourly. It may not seem like a glamorous job, but without it, we wouldn’t have the information we need to submit grants for funding, nor to entice more food producers to our market.
Have a specialized skill and/or prefer to work behind the scenes? KFM could use your help with graphic design, photography, writing or special event planning. Each of these areas offers flexible scheduling and the opportunity to use your talents to bring the attributes of the market to the attention of our community.
And for the “social butterflies,” we would love to put you to work coordinating our music program, assisting on festival days, representing the market at community gatherings and recruiting additional volunteers.
Wherever your skills, talents and interests lie, the Keller Farmers Market would love to have you join. Contact us now. We look forward to hearing from you.
